September 2011
Well that was the summer that never was! But hey - lots got done. In
fact, it was amazing! I have all the material for that 'difficult' 2nd
album now, so not too long now...
I played some awesome gigs this summer, noteably Bracknell Guitar
Festival, Brownstock Festival, and the London Acoustic Guitar Show
2011. It was great to hang with the world's top guitarists, guitar
makers, industry dudes and all-round splendid people. Special thanks to
John Renbourn, Fish and his merry band, Pierre Bensusan, and Ed Gerhard
for being so welcoming and so sweet :)
So as Autumn rolls in and the nights get longer, it's all looking
brighter at Capener HQ. There's the Acoustic Avalon show coming up at
the end of October, and then there's a CD to record - and all the
feedback from playing the new material out live has me believing this
will be a good CD. *touches wood*
March 2011
It’s
been a bumper year over at Capener Towers, and the music has kept me
really busy. Having an album to promote certainly lights a fire under a
man, and I’ve been getting out regularly and making it pay for itself!
“River” garnered me some really positive attention over the year, and a
feature in Acoustic magazine was a nice boost. Of course, once you’ve
released an album, people start to expect that there’ll be another one,
and I’ve gradually been honing new material, as those who’ve been to
see me live will know. I've nearly enough for a new album now, so watch
this space!
On the live front, I've been a busy boy, and playing some festivals in the summer helped to raise my profile.
On
other fronts: The ducks are now inside a fox - no more eggs! Also, I've
been honoured to be asked to marry someone (no, not bigamy, but
actually do the marrying bit as in join two good friends in unholy
matrimony). A first for me!
April 2010
Well that's that winter over with!
These last few months have been pretty eventful. The support dates I did with Mawkin:Causley were big fun, I met lots of lovely people, signed lots of CD's and even signed someone's guitar. I'm always amazed at the responses I get at gigs, and I really enjoy meeting people afterwards. So thank you to everyone out there who makes gigging so enjoyable for me :)
I've been writing some new material, and picked up endorsements from G7th, the capo company (http://www.g7th.com/) who make the best damn capos in the world and Newtone Strings, who are working with me to work out the perfect custom set for me.
Also, I've been nominated for an award at The Panic Awards for best solo performer (wish me luck!) and "River" got a great review in February's Acoustic Magazine. Acoustic also did an interview with me, which will appear in a future issue.
So stuff's pretty good in the Capener HQ.
Oh, and the duck eggs are gooood, by the way :)

"River" is now up on CDBaby, available to buy as CD or Download. iTunes next! Then Amazon... and then I shall take over the world, nyah nyah nyah!!
I'm looking forward to the Mawkin:Causley gigs this month, plus a radio interview. On the home front, house of Capener has reduced in number by 1 due to our daughter going off to uni; and then increased by 3 with the arrival of ducks! No eggs 'till April though, so I'll keep you posted about how they taste then (No, the eggs - not the ducks! What are you thinkin ?!)

It's been a busy year - I recorded my new album, "River", at Sidrat Studios with the highly talented Mr Dan Hewett doing a fine job of engineering and mixing. I made a good choice with Dan, as he turned out to be totally in tune with what I was trying to achieve and made what can be a very isolated creative process into a really fun project. And it worked out that I made a friend as well as an album - two for the price of one!
Now I'm busy promoting River. There's a website on the way (watch this space) where there will be an online facility to buy cd's, and there shall be tunes for downloadage on iTunes etc.
I'm also busy booking dates to play and get out there to meet you lovely people.
In October I'll be supporting the fantastic Mawkin:Causley for four of their autumn tour dates. I'm really looking forward to these as they are a bunch of great musicians, so I'll be enjoying listening as much as playing. Here's a little about them:
"Those wicked Essex rascals, Mawkin, have joined forces with the honey-voiced Jim Causley to form one hell of a boy band! One of the best instrumental outfits to emerge in recent years, Mawkin have a string of festival and concert appearances under their belt. Bringing Jim Causley on board is a masterstroke, as his gorgeous baritone voice is the perfect foil for their cleverly textured tunes and energetic performances. Their critically acclaimed debut E.P "Cold Ruin" gained them national radio play and a nomination for "Best Group" in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. "Our Favourite new folk act... an inspired alliance" - TIME OUT MAGAZINE"
That's it for now. Gotta get on - busy busy busy!
